CHIN-3021: Readings Contemporary Chinese Culture and Society

Course description: Readings in Contemporary Chinese Culture & Society. Chinese CHIN 325 is an advanced fourth Level Chinese course, designed to consolidate students’ language skills at the advanced level and promote their cultural literacy. In this course, students will read and discuss intensively articles on various contemporary social-cultural topics, such as urbanization and cultural heritage, entertainment, food culture, and the influence of Confucianism on modern China, etc. To facilitate students’ reading speed and comprehension level, authentic articles on related topics will also be provided for extensive reading and discussion. Through reading, discussion, and writing projects, students are expected to advance their speaking, reading, and writing abilities as well as the ability to understand and comment critically on contemporary social-cultural issues in China. Prerequisites: CHIN 212 or placement test.
