Course Description: The course introduces students to a variety of writings by contemporary Chinese scholars and public intellectuals on Chinese literature, history, thought, the arts, both modern and pre-modern. Writings will be drawn from books, intellectual magazines, the web, and journals, and most will straddle the border between academic and serious popular writing. The course is aimed at students who have completed at least one course in Chinese at the 300-level.
