JAPN-3052: Introduction to Japanese Literature
Course Description: This course is designed to enhance the reading and writing skills of advanced Japanese language learners through selected texts from Japanese literary works. It focuses on (a) accurate comprehension of authentic literary materials, (b) the development of advanced vocabulary and grammar, and (c) the enhancement of both written and spoken communication skills through rigorous discussions and assignments. The course explores a variety of texts and genres from modern and contemporary Japanese literature, with select classical works also included. Students will engage with a diverse range of readings, fostering a deeper appreciation for the complexity and richness of Japan’s literary and cultural landscape. Active participation in class activities, written assignments, quizzes, exams, and a term project will be required.
